In autumn 2024, we launched Jest for Men - a 6-week stand-up comedy course designed specifically for men in Devon. Led by acclaimed comedian and comedy educator Angie Belcher, the project offered participants an opportunity to explore humour as a tool for confidence, connection, and mental wellbeing.

Each week, a group of men came together to write, rehearse, and refine their own 5-minute comedy routines, drawing inspiration from their lives and experiences. With Angie's expert guidance and a supportive, laughter-filled atmosphere, participants developed performance skills, built confidence, and found new ways to express themselves.

The project culminated in a celebratory open mic performance at The Bootlegger in Exeter, where participants took to the stage and shared their stories with a warm and enthusiastic audience. It was a joyful, affirming afternoon - full of laughter, camaraderie, and courage.

Backed by the National Lottery Community Fund, Jest for Men provided subsidised places, refreshments, and a welcoming space for men to step outside their comfort zones and discover the power of comedy as a creative outlet.
